Rural decline warned as family farms face loss
Victor K. Ray of the National Farmers Union told Washburn County farmers that unless public policy changes, another million family farms will vanish in ten years and one third of the farm population may disappear in the 1980s along with as many rural businesses. He urged a unified effort on tax, credit, commodity, and trade policies to protect U.S. family farms. The report also lists local farming events in Balsam Lake Alma and Polk County with dairy judging, employee events, and an economic planning meeting set for April 22.
