Letters echo rural anger over farmland preservation plan

A Country Today letter condemns a Jackson County farmland preservation program linking private farming with government funding. The writer asks why 95 percent of residents are labeled a radical minority and accuses the senator of pressuring lawmakers to endorse what he calls socialized farming and a tax funded bureaucracy. The letter challenges constitutional rights and criticizes fiscal effects on city taxpayers and schools.

State Sen Tom Harnisch urged Jackson County supervisors to revisit their March vote against applying for a farmland preservation planning grant. He argued the decision was driven by a vocal minority and highlighted tax credits and county planning benefits.
