Dayton Ohio September 12 2 2 The Republican convention nominated Carmi Thompson for Secretary of State on the second ballot with 550 votes to 62 for Kennedy and 132 for Comings Witt and others were also listed. Wade Cushing declined to serve and John R Mallow was named. Governor Harris received a thunderous ovation as permanent chairman. Resolutions backed Foraker and Dick with a minority against tariff revision. Dunlap led for Food Commissioner on second ballot with 460 votes to 802 for Young and 76 for Beggs. The day featured heated party factionalism over committee seats and the fight for the state central committee.

A. D. Manner a Coshocton Pioneer Dies at 81
A D Manner longtime Coshocton resident on East Main street aged 81 died at 9 23 this morning after a year of failing health. He lived a quiet life in service to the community and was known for integrity in business and friendship. He was born in Green castle Pennsylvania and learned harness and carriage trades before starting his own business and later a livery with his son J B Manner. Survived by second wife Mary Jane Graves and her children William H and Emma, he served on the council and was a longtime Odd Fellow. Funeral Friday at 2:30 pm from the house with Dr Hunt officiating. Oak Ridge cemetery burial.

Lightning strikes cause loss of big barn near Plainfield
A bolt of lightning destroyed a large barn owned by J. F. Williams and son near Plainfield. The 40 by 60 foot structure burned quickly, filled with hay and tools, with only stock saved. One mule escaped, later sought shelter, and the barn’s ruin buried under debris. Loss estimated around 800 dollars plus timber.

George Wilson of New Castle died at age XT years after a long life of service. He enlisted in Company F of the 80th Ohio, rose to first sergeant and later lieutenant, and was mustered out with honors. The funeral is set for Thursday at 4 PM at his home with Rev. Morria officiating. burial will be in Walhondine.

Coshocton Man Jacob Croft Dies in Holmes County
Jacob Croft of Holmes County died at his home Thursday morning at eight o clock from Brights disease. Born December 31, 1833 in Coshocton County, he married Hadnah Conkle September 27, 1860. A devoted husband and father, he was a lifelong Reformed church member. A large gathering at Salem Reformed Church paid last tributes, services led by Rev. F B Lay of New Bedford. He was 76 years old. His widow, three sons, one daughter, four brothers, two sisters survive, with burial at Salem Reformed cemetery near Shallot.

JF Sther, a strawberry grower west of Roscoe, shipped 36 quarts to Pittsburg today. He sold at 20 to 26 cents per quart as the berries were large and luscious. His harvest includes two and a half acres with cherries and spring fruit, gathering more than 615 bushels, and he plans a second crop by straw covering the plants after the first frost.
