A twenty year old Italian American, son of a Main Street fruit dealer, received a Black Hand letter demanding 5000 dollars with a death threat. The family keeps details private. the father and son stay alert, with the son permitted to carry firearms and protect the mother, who remains unaware of the danger. Both are away from the city this week.

Chief engineer Schuler delays full power as crews fix 3500 volt mains and broken wires. Lights may return Wednesday night if repairs succeed.

Clarence Woodin James Williams Sam Hedge Susie Stevens and Emma Robinson were held after a Tuesday night raid on Emma Robinson’s boarding house on North Street. He landed on his head and shoulders, was helped home, and local reports say only a badly bruised wrist and shoulder suffered. further injuries are possible but not yet confirmed.
The federal grand jury indicted the New York World, Joseph Pulitzer, Caleb Vanhamm, Robert H. Lyman, the Indianapolis News and its owners Delavan Smith and Charles R. Williams for libel connected to Panama canal scandal stories. Named allegedly libeled are President Roosevelt, J Pierpont Morgan, Charles F. Taft, Elihu Root, Douglas Robinson, and William Nelson Cromwell.
Columbus Feb 172 The general appropriation bill passed under suspension, totaling 7 607 027 for state departments and institutions amid rapid handling. It includes 27 500 for a new building at a state institution and 32 600 for bank inspection, 36 540 for vital statistics, plus 590 000 for canal improvements. The session also saw the senate temperance committee vote to indefinitely postpone two Deas bills affecting local option and saloon standards, signaling a major temperance setback.
William Cleary sells two Linden addition lots to Mrs Emma Painter who plans an eight room house this spring. Cleary will construct two six or eight room houses next summer and use remaining lots with his greenhouse on South Tenth street. His Linden holdings cover an entire square.
Dr Workman of Gambier and Dr Baker of Sgerieg Mountain operated on Harry Lybarger of Spring Mountain near Kenyon College in Gambier Tuesday evening. He had suffered a ruptured peptic ulcer and required urgent surgery. His mother Mrs Lyberger had stayed with him for the past week as he was moved home to Warsaw Woodward after the procedure.

County Engineer Geo Back surveyed the Miller and Simona road in southeastern Tulacarawax township. Only one of the appointed viewers, Peter Shaffer, appeared. Corbelius Aronhialt and Geo Rock Sr were appointed in place of missing viewers. They will report on Saturday.
Judge Weygandt releases next weeks schedule with four criminal trials. Clinton Frew faces attempting to provoke breach of the peace on Feb 23 and Sam Sprague on local option law violations. Arch Brown is set for Feb 24 for assault with intent to rape. Jas Slaughter appears Feb 26 for shooting with intent to kill.
Crawford pleads guilty in a case with Judge Devor on Wednesday morning. The defendant admitted co habitation and received a deferred sentence. A separate bootlegging case involving Sam Sprague was postponed until next Tuesday.
