Two Scale Pen Walls: Escape From Ohio Penitentiary

Columbus. Two inmates escaped from the Ohio penitentiary by scaling walls this afternoon using a two inch betting tool. The fugitives Bert Fragier of Lucas County serving 1 year for burglary and Bert Smit of Cuyahoga County, a life prisoner, were spotted by a trusted guard and pedestrians. Bloodhounds tracked west toward the Pennsylvania railroad before losing the scent. Mr and Mrs William Smailey of New Moscow shopped in Coshocton yesterday.

Runaway Hearse Barely Misses Disaster in Dresden

A hearse driven by Martin Cox escaped serious damage Tuesday noon in Dresden after a Zanesville autoist allegedly reckless. The hearse, used for Mrs J W Lanning's funeral, bolted with the team unhitched, but Cox steadied the vehicle and the horses slowed. Witnesses blamed the autoist for the frightening incident.
