Conductor Surrenders After Claiming Railroad Robbery
Yard conductor H A Sloane of the Pennsylvania Railroad reported to police that in November 1897 he and two men robbed an express train of 86 000 at Galena Illinois on the Chicago Northwestern line. An inquiry follows as Sloane is thought to be mentally unbalanced. The Chicago Northwestern notes only the Tower W robbery near Dekalb 40 miles from Galena in 1899 netting about 40 000.
