Visit to New Orleans Exposition and Mardi Gras of 1885
A writer recalls a February 1885 excursion from Coshocton to New Orleans for the Cotton Centennial and World’s Fair. The narrative covers train travel, gauge changes near South Toursville, stops in Nashville and Mobile, Gulf views, the Exposition grounds, and a grand Mardi Gras season with Rex and Mus of Mamons parades. Notes on city streets, architecture, and the Carnival’s splendor mix with reflections on weather, friendships, and the writer’s return trip, ending with an exhortation to readers about visiting New Orleans.
