Muskingum River runs a mile longer and much wider than usual as heavy rain fills the streams. Citizens report swollen waters and related flooding on local feeders.
Floodwaters surge over the Tuscarawas and Walhonding rivers flooding canals and roads from Canal Lewisville to Roscoe. A Walhonding railroad trestle is washed away while ferries operate between Coshocton and Roscoe. Mail carrier Ripley escapes a submerged Lewisville road as water inches toward water works and gas works high ground. Numerous farms and backyards inundated. no fatalities reported in the county.
President Roosevelt called an extraordinary Senate session for March 5 to push the Panama canal treaty and Cuban reciprocity. The body faces a heavy calendar with many bills in committee and a long, near round-the-clock schedule through Wednesday. Smoot of Utah is set to be sworn in, with a verification process to be deferred to December if credentials are regular.
The funeral for John Smith, a Panhandle passenger engineer, was held at his Dennison home and at the Railway Chapel under the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. The accident occurred near Black Link while No 6 passed Taylor’s. Smith, age 51 next June, left a wife and seven children.

The pavement in front of the Empire Hotel suddenly collapsed at 1 pm, dropping into a coal cellar below. No one was injured as passersby were absent at the moment. a barricade was set and repairs planned to lay a new pavement at once.
