The Reformation of Tom Toperly on a Farm
Tom Toperly, a lifelong drinker and frequenter of temperance groups, vanishes only to reappear ten miles from home. A rough farmer entices him with the promise of endless drink, imprisons him for three months then helps him sober up and learn to work. After a year of labor and restraint, the farmer funds new clothes and a fresh identity, hoping Tom starts anew as Mr. Brown in the town.
