A local contest offers a fine diamond ring to the candidate with the largest gain in votes from 8 p m Tuesday January 16 to 8 p m Tuesday January 22. Both a lady’s and gentleman’s ring were chosen at C M May’s jewelry store and the top vote getter will select first.
Coshocton exhibitors dominated the Thirawas county poultry show at Newcomerstown last week winning many prizes. W M Smith led with fourteen Rhode Island Reds and Indian Game birds taking four firsts five seconds two birds and one fourth while also placing a pen. G A Gallagher earned nine firsts with bantams. Al Renner took a first and second on two Minorca pullets. Robert Greer claimed two firsts and a third on Buff Leghorns. Frank Ricketts and C N Randles also won prizes on Buff Plymouth Rocks and White Plymouth Rocks respectively. Several fanciers plan to send birds to the Pittsburg show next month.
Ben Bickerson was brought into court Tuesday to be arraigned on the murder charge against Mrs. Hughes but his attorneys asked a delay to file a motion to quash the indictment. The motion rests on the same grounds as before that the indictment is invalid. The defense says the delay avoids cost and future delays for the county. The case of Lybarger admits Gor man is being heard by Judge Eason with Pomerene and Roche as attorneys. Judge Eason planned to clear demurrers and petitions this week, with jury cases starting January 29. Dickerson’s case will come up as soon as possible, and the state’s case against John Jones has been postponed to the next term.

All twenty four members of the workmen's council were arrested during the night in St. Petersburg. A mass of correspondence and revolutionary documents were seized by authorities.

The board met Monday afternoon with Allan Marshall and operators David Davis and R L Barnes to decide coal vein taxes. Attorneys Mérrell and Prosecutor Glenn attended as the matter heads to a May meeting. Parties dispute whether landowners pay taxes until development or if operators begin paying taxes once coal becomes property.
In Columbus Jan 16 a Republican majority is lined up against the Healy resolution for an investigation of Cincinnati government. Aimed at truancy and child labor laws, the plan would empower mayoral probes upon petition of 10 percent of voters. Senator Helner’s finances rule ensures money for any future investigations.
