A locomotive boiler flare scalds a worker as steam is forced from a firebox. Unknown injuries reported after the blast in the engine room. Authorities investigate the incident and inspect the locomotive for safety violations.
William Marshall a Panhandle fireman was burned when a flue collapsed sending fire water and steam into his face near Morgan Run. He received treatment at Dr Carr and returned home to Dennison. He is the son of ex commissioner Allan Marshall and linked to a recent wreck near W V tower.
The English Lutheran congregation plans to build a new church on the corner lot at Walnut and Seventh streets. Plans and specifications are drawn, and they expect to be safely housed in a new church before the next winter, in their own building.
President Roosevelt signed a bill granting a full rebate of duty on all coal imported into the United States for one year, making the measure operative immediately. Also notes a water pipe burst at the Wheeling and Lake Erie railroad and a public sale notice for the M. J. Robinson heirs farm in Coshocton County Ohio on February 7 1903 with terms including cash and mortgage options.
W R Pomerene attended a Woodsfield meeting of the newly formed company that owns the Bellaire Zanesville and Cincinnati railroad now renamed the Ohio River and Western after acquisition by the Apple yard syndicate. The group plans 2 006 000 dollars in improvements and may convert to an electric line. Pomerene is named director and secretary.
Isabel Irving will present The Crisis in Coshocton next Wednesday January 21 under the management of James K Hackett. J I Hammond met with Coshocton Elks leaders to secure a heavy guarantee and offer the greatest American play with Miss Irving. Elks officials say ticket prices will not exceed 1.00 despite the 190 seating in other cities. The company numbers twenty two.
J M Gledhill died Wednesday night of heart disease at the home of Mr and Mrs J B Renfrew on Walnut street. He was sixty four and father of Mrs Renfrew. Survived by his wife. Burial will be at the old home Ravenna Friday, cortege leaving here in the morning on the Wheeling. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge. local pallbearers will be Odd Fellows and Ravenna Odd Fellows will take charge there.
Detroit municipal coal yards opened today with 4000 tons of soft coal and 4000 more coming. The price is six dollars per ton for all buyers, regardless of quantity, as the city cannot deliver. Residents arrive with buckets carts and sleighs to haul away coal after paying as much as fourteen dollars previously.
Rev Mr Tilly opened a series at the Baptist Church on Wednesday with a sermon titled An Ideal Christian. The speaker urged Christians to imitate Christ and described the Christian as an idealist while noting air castles can become solid. He announced daily sermons at 2 and 7 pm with tonight's topic Does My Life Please God.
Ohio miners at a winter convention report coal mines not used to full output with some workers earning only two to four days weekly. Other items note Breckenridge denouncing Roosevelt over appointing black officials, a Cincinnati eclectic medical pioneer J Jean son's death, a horse found at the court house area, and plans to move idle coal with rail line work to reach stored stock.
Charles Barenus died at his parents home on Orange Street after five weeks of pleurisy. Aged about twenty five, he had worked in a Steubenville paper mill. He was brought home Wednesday noon and died at 6 pm. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 pm conducted by Rev. Dr. Toland. Interment in South Lawn cemetery.
The Ohio Hardware Dealers Mutual Fire Insurance company held its annual meeting in the Gray building city. Officers include President J P Duffy Greenfield secretary treasurer Geo M Gray Coshocton and directors J V Gultan Ada Jos B Myers Cincinnati and Henry E Rohe Cleveland. Margroder assisted Gray for one year. Weidware men state meeting in Columbus February 24 25 85. Gray praised for full report and enterprise.
Columbus January 1 Governor Nash and Attorney General Sheety say they have the coal combine nailed with firm evidence. They caution the defense by not disclosing all details. Meanwhile the sale of farm assets by TL Finley is announced for January 22 at Roscoe on the Ohio canal, including sheep, equipment, corn and oats with nine months credit on larger items.
Leslie Hack receives a joyful notice after sending a letter from Hong Kong. The Coshocton resident is mentioned in the brief communication from the Far East reflecting a personal greeting and happiness.

John Richards was carried to the state asylum by Supt Lennon of the county infirmary on Wednesday afternoon. He had been brought from Columbus to the infirmary about a week earlier and was not fully recovered.
