Windell Visit to Mendota and Rural Illinois Farm Scene

Mr and Mrs Samuel C Windell traveled from Corydon to Mendota Illinois to visit daughter Mrs Carry Cunningham and family and attended the Mendota Agricultural Fair praising the event. Miss Elsie Watson Undergoes Appendicitis Operation

Miss Elsie Watson daughter of Mr and Mrs A G Watson of Corydon near Indianapolis went to the city for medical care. Doctors diagnosed appendicitis and Dr Noble performed the operation at Methodist Hospital last Thursday. Parents were present and she was reported progressing well with expected home return by Sunday.

Local Man Severely Injured by Falling Rock

E.£. Stevens, four miles north of Corydon and father of County Clerk W. Rt. Stevens, was hurt while supervising rock extraction for a gravel road project. Exploded dynamite loosened rock fell in the quarry, breaking his left shoulder blade and bruising his left hand and face. Dr. Sonne treated the injuries.

Steamer Southland Marooned on Sandbar Near Dam 483

The steamer Southland became wedged on a sandbar near Dam 483 Sunday afternoon during its final Ohio trip. Hundreds were aboard but the vessel rested in three feet of water with no danger to passengers. Shore access occurred Monday morning, and crowd morale held as lunch baskets circulated and workers faced a delayed return to jobs.

Leghorn Poultry Trade Moves 250 Pullets Northward

C H Kintner southeast of Corydon sold 250 White Leghorn pullets to William Spitler of Flora Indiana and shipped them last Friday. Spitler known for buying milk cows locally. Kintner ordered a White Leghorn rooster from Washington via Prof. Phillips Purdue University. New roo from Tahkard strain. Claude Davis of Hillside Poultry Farm secured a male bird from the same breeder.

Indiana horses win at Nashville

Stepro Brothers of Corydon and Floyd County Commissioner Clarence Tucker own racehorses that performed well at the Tennessee State Fair in Nashville. Rose E won first in the 2-14 pace while Vernon Pointer placed second across heats, with times around 2 07 to 2 08. Modesty Ivan took second in the 2-20 trot, and Expense showed mixed results in the 2-12 pace amid muddy track conditions.
