Damages Awarded in Railroad Death Case
In Clark county a jury awarded Elizabeth B. Phillips administratrix of W. H Phillips deceased three thousand dollars in a case against the Baltimore Ohio Southwestern Railway Company. Phillips was killed four years ago in Jeffersonville when a train struck him. Venue was changed from Clark to this county. the jury deliberated overnight and returned a verdict the next morning. The railroad’s cars were shown to run at twelve miles per hour, exceeding the city’s ordinance limit. The jury was a struck jury.

House Fire Destroys Mrs Burres Home in Taylor Township
At about nine o’clock Friday morning the large dwelling of Mrs. Ella Burres in Taylor township burned with most contents. Sparks from the flue likely caused the blaze. Mrs. Burres, an invalid, had to be carried from the building to her brother James A. McRae’s nearby home. A small portion of belongings was saved. Loss estimated at 800 with no insurance. A severe misfortune for a sick, poor woman cared for by her brother.

Attempt to derail train near tunnel near English
An attempt to derail the eastbound Air Line passenger train occurred last Friday afternoon at the tunnel mouth near English. Crossties were piled on the track but the engineer slowed the train before impact. Governor Durbin rode the train from Evansville to Jeffersonville. In Petersburg circuit court Judge E A Ey held that legal voters may appoint another to sign remonstrances against retail liquor licenses. Deranged Scott County man shoots cheek wound on porch
J J W Bruner of Scott township, about 68, has suffered kidney and stomach trouble since February. In a deranged state on Saturday he fired a revolver, wounding his right cheek and leaving the weapon. the shot may have been accidental or deliberate. Dr I L Neely treated the wound, not fatal, as Bruner’s mind remains troubled. He has long led a respected, orderly life.

Death of Mrs Glaze in Corydon From Typhoid Fever
Mrs Oma Glaze wife of Chas Glaze of Corydon died last Thursday at about 28 from typhoid fever. A sister of Marion Wright she married two years ago in Brandenburg Ky and moved to Corydon. She leaves a husband and small child, likely contracted illness from nursing him through a long siege.
