Tragic Lightning Strike Kills Maggie Gardner
Mrs Maggie E Gardner 22 wife of Charles Gardner of Spencer township was killed crossing a field during a Friday thunder storm. She was found two hours later by her brother William. Coroner Nye held an inquest and burial followed at the Pitman burying ground with many mourners. Her mother Mrs Pitman was away in Corydon when word arrived.

Local School Closes With Gypsy Queen Play
Prof and Mrs W H Fouse closed their school with a School Hall entertainment on the evening of the 21st. The event drew a large crowd and netted about 5 in receipts. The Gypsy Queen play featured the school’s students with graduates Maude Johnson Geo Stith and Harry Bell. Prizes went to Maurice Smith and Leslie Arnett. Under the Fouse tutorship the colored school has progressed rapidly. Dr William Daniel attends a State Health Association meeting in Indianapolis this week.

Same Fellow Grand Larceny Case Returns in Court
Thomas McCartney was discharged on former jeopardy after pleading, then faced a new indictment yesterday. Andrew M. Sweeney and other State Life Insurance Co. witnesses appeared by subpoena. Death of John Lane, Early Town Settler
John Lane aged 84 died early Monday at his daughter's home Mrs Anna Curts after long illness. Survived by five children including Anna Curts of this place and John W Lane of Owensboro, two sisters in Cleveland and Paducah. Funeral held yesterday at 2 pm at the Christian church with Elder S S Nye officiating, burial at Cedar Hill.
