Local notice announces Berman's Selling Out Sale moving to Corydon with a promise of a highly profitable shopping day for customers. The advertisement emphasizes a drastic business shutdown and large discounts as the sale proceeds.
Mrs Elizabeth Jenkins wife of ex County Superintendent Pleasant Jenkins killed herself with a small rifle at their north Franklin Township home near Georgetown. The 42 year old mother left a despondent note, her husband and daughter Veicie were away at Sunday school and found her body on return. She leaves a husband one child and several siblings. She was a devout Christian and well regarded in Corydon and Harrison county.
Funeral services were conducted yesterday at ten o clock at the Jenkins residence and the burial took place in Wolfe's cemetery.
Miss Adaline Brown daughter of Mrs Sophia Brown died Sunday at her home after a long illness. Funeral from the home Monday was conducted by Rev M A Cossaboom and burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. She was forty six and survived by five of eleven siblings including Mrs August Grat of New Albany and Mrs George Cunningham of Louisville. She had polio as a child leaving her invalid for life cared for by her mother. Her father the late Louis Brown once sheriff of the county.
Miss Sallie Sherman daughter of George Sherman and Otto Rowe son of Mr and Mrs William Rowe of Mauckport eloped to Louisville and were married there. They returned to Mauckport on Friday. The groom is a teacher in Harrison county and both are regarded as prominent young people.
Used very little and well cared for, this Deering Ideal seven foot binder is offered by Henry A. Sauerheber of White Cloud. The listing notes near-new condition and pride in ownership, with a brief aside about Mr and Mrs Vic J Wright spending yesterday at Louisville.
Otto W. Young of Morgan township died suddenly of heart failure last Friday at 441 Garden Street Louisville. Funeral services were held Sunday at Albert Eurath's chapel Louisville with Rev. Henry Munag. burial in Soldier's Cemetery. He lacked about a month of eighty, had no immediate relatives locally, was a Civil War veteran, married three times with four stepchildren including John H. Dannreuther. A former justice court lawyer, he was noted for public interest and legality.
On Sunday the 25th a Memorial Day service will be held at the Presbyterian Church in the morning. Rev. John A. McKamy will preach on Our Nation's Fallen Heroes with music and decorations. Soldiers of all wars, their families, widows, and children of deceased soldiers from Corydon and vicinity are invited, with the general public also welcome. Dr. F. A. Ulen of Corydon traveled to Indianapolis to attend a State Dental Association meeting.
Rev J Sced Murr of Greenwood delivered a Lincoln lecture at the Christian church last Friday. Despite rain and many public meetings the talk impressed attendees with its fresh insights into Lincoln's boyhood and character. Murr, born near Spencer township, spoke of his chats with men who knew Lincoln as a boy and argued the period has been overlooked by biographers. The lecture was praised as eloquent and exemplary Christian manhood and may be repeated in Corydon. Ebner Hudson, a Republican office staffer, left for Imperial Kansas.
George R. Wilson of Indianapolis offers a 412 page county history of Dubois County with 143 illustrations. The Huntingburg Independent lauds the work as foundational and urges purchase for four dollars prepaid to the author. James MelIntire of Boone township, age ninety, is seriously ill and not expected to survive.
The Long family in Corydon arranged a noon surprise on May 15 for Uncle Jesse Long's 77th birthday. About 75 relatives and friends gathered at his daughter Mrs. Fred Saulman’s home with a feast and cake from Louisville. Attendees included Mitch Rowland, James H. Long, Thelma Long, Henry Winchell, and Captain Geo W. Winchell of Louisville.
