The Corydon High School 28th annual commencement on the College Auditorium stage honored nine graduates. Blaine Hays and Mabel Jordan delivered standout papers as Dr Bryan gave the main address on Man and His Work, urging preparation for chosen life work and devotion to worthy labor.
A veteran optician with 20 years of practice announces a limited-time reduction on eyeglass fittings. Gold filled frames priced at 33.00 per pair, solid gold at 4.50, aluminum with gold bridge at 1.50, all fitted with white crystal lenses. Eyes tested free at Dr. Davis' drug store.
Mrs Ida Thompson of Canton in Washington county suffered a serious ear injury when a horse playfully nipped off the lower portion of her right ear. A surgeon sewed the severed part back, and luck avoided swallowing it. Moral warns care with ears when feeding horses.
It warns that a cold can quickly lead to pneumonia and endorses Chamberlain's Cough Remedy as a prompt, pleasant cure. The ad notes it is sold by C. R. Watson, successor to E. S. Crosier & Co.
Saturday evening May 19th a large ice cream supper will be held at Randall in L H Temples Sugar Grove. Food music and refreshments of all kinds will be on the grounds and everyone is invited to attend and bring friends.
The State failed to convict Ollie Shrigley in a grand larceny trial for a mare stolen from neighbor Michael Hannel. Jurors were deadlocked after two days of testimony, the case to be retried. Shrigley, son of J W Shrigley of Scott township, had a clean reputation before the episode and had traveled with a stereoptical show.
Miss Edith Brown oldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Brown died at her Walnut street home last Friday morning the 11th inst of consumption. Born May 27 1879 she studied bookkeeping and stenography in New Albany and worked three years as book-keeper for Cumberland Telephone Company then in Louisville before illness. She joined the Christian church in 1895 and lived a Christian life. Funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the Christian church conducted by John H Heth. interred Cedar Hill Cemetery amid a large gathering of friends.
Postmaster G. W. Fouts of River ton Ia. reports in a letter that after twenty years of chronic liver trouble he suffered jaundice so severe his nails turned yellow yet Electric Bitters cured him and kept him well for eleven years. The tonic is sold by Lb. A Riley and Son's Drug Store at 50 cents. Also noted: Thos. J. Wright and family from near Crandall visited Corydon. Wright now operates near Fort Wayne Ind as general agent for Osborne Machine Co with success. Edward Frakes lost part of a finger in a rip saw at the snake mill last Friday.
On the afternoon of the 6th inst at Arthur Russell's livery stable in Corydon a fight erupted between William McCarty and Elias Carver of Boone township. Both were witnesses in a circuit court case and had been drinking. McCarty suffered cuts to the eye, lip, tongue and ribs while Carver endured severe facial bruises. Carver left in a buggy. McCarty was treated by Drs. Daniel, Wolfe and Neely and carried to David Neafus’s home on Chestnut street. Sheriff Ludlow pursued Carver, who was arrested with his bond posted by his brother Schuyler. The piece criticizes liquor sales in Corydon and extols De Witt’s Little Pearly risings as a remedy.
