O J D Byrne appeals to Harrison County voters as a third time candidate. He notes the Byrne family as long time Dems from North Carolina and urges seniority in the primary. He cites Jackson township’s long Treasurer vacancy and asks for nomination to help carry the party to victory.
The Christian Endeavor Institute at Corydon last Friday and Saturday drew Dr. O. T. Deaver of Dayton to speak on issues confronting church and world. Revs W Todd J W Settle Ernest Roberts N Fouts attended. Rev J H Toombs preached on Behold the Lamb of God.
State Senator Joseph M. Hirsch of Cannelton Perry County toured the county last week to support his Democratic nomination bid. A farmer and banker by trade he is German by birth and active in war effort drives including Liberty Loan. His bank reportedly sold 54000 in bonds as part of the campaign. The note states no direct involvement in primary contests but reflects support from a local ally.
George P Tronein died at his home in Spencer township last Wednesday after a weeklong illness from pneumonia arising from German measles. Funeral was held at Ilsas church on Thursday led by Rev. Jesse Shuck. Survived by wife Anna Troncin and two brothers Levi Troncin of this county and William of Crawford county. He was just past sixty, born and raised in the county and lifelong resident except for a period in Wiinvie. He was a respected citizen.
Corydon congregations from Presbyterian Methodist and Christian churches plan joint worship at the Christian Church next Sunday night. Rev. J G Moore of the Methodist Church will preach. The Harnson Co Woman's War Service Club sets a regular meeting Saturday at 2 50 at the Methodist Church with a program focusing on wheat substitutes.
J. F. Cody appeals to Harrison County voters for support in the Democratic primary for Prosecuting Attorney. He notes past defeats and criticizes his opponent seeking a fourth term, urging county residents to back him or favor a Perry County candidate. He asks voters to advocate for him at the primary.
Chas. H. Toler writes to Harrison township voters that farming season limits in person meetings before the May 7 primary. He seeks the Democratic nomination for township trustee, pledges faithful service, and urges inquiries to learn his character.
