Elmira Hughes 87 Dies at Blue River Farm in Spencer
Mrs Elmira Hughes widow of the Yate Augustus Hughes drops dead in the yard at her Blue River home in Spencer township after one o clock last Thursday March 17. She owned 489 acres once part of President William Henry Harrison’s estate and left eight children forty eight grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. Funeral at Pine River Chapel United Brethren Church with Rev Rosenberger, burial in Rottroca cemetery. She was a Rothrock by birth and a long respected member of the United Brethren church.

Mrs Frank Gresham dies in Lanesville at 50
Rebecca Elien Kitterman Gresham, daughter of Rice and Louise Kitterman, died March 18 1921 at her home near Lanesville after a long illness. She was born November 6 1870 near Corydon and lived in the county all her life. She married James Swan and had one child, then married Frank Gresham who survives. Funeral at Lanesville M E Church noted with burial in Lanesville Cemetery. She leaves a daughter, a stepdaughter, an adopted son, seven grandchildren, two sisters and five brothers and many relatives. Funeral conducted by Rev Frakes.

Evan Sherrill Improves After Riverside Air Crash
Evans Sherrill, captain, is reported improving after a Riverside California airplane crash. He has been moved to Leatherman Hospital in San Francisco where five physicians and two nurses care for him. His left leg was amputated above the knee, and injuries include a broken left arm and nose, skull fracture, and facial lacerations. His companion was killed. the engine failure occurred about a hundred feet from the site. He is now able to sit up and write home.

Death of Thomas J. Rawlings at age 57 in Kentucky
Thomas J. Rawlings died March 12 at his Depauw home after a brief illness likely pneumonia contracted returning from Manchester Kentucky. Born January 21, 1864 in Bug Spring Kentucky he lived in his native area until ages eighteen months before death. He served as a judge in Jay County Kentucky and worked as a traveling salesman for Kentucky Clothing Co. Funeral services were held March 14 at Mt Zion conducted by Rev. R. E. Starrs and burial followed. He was twice married, survived by his second wife, ten children and nine grandchildren, and he belonged to the Masonic Lodge.

Death of Jacob Bruce in Scott township
Jacob Bruce died at his Scott township home last Sunday night of consumption after about two months bedridden. He lived on Amos Lynch’s farm, his father in law, for about a year and previously resided in Corydon. The body was buried in Cedar Hill cemetery yesterday. He was about seventy five and survived by a widow and several children from a previous marriage.
