Silver Star for Corydon Lt Libs Symbol of Army Service

Former 1st Lt John W Libs, grandson of Corydon residents, was awarded the Silver Star and named the U S Army Symbol of Service. Ceremony at Evansville National Guard Armory included Brig Gen Marvin Evans, lawmakers, and congratulations from Gen Westmoreland and Gen Depuy. A color portrait was presented and a reception followed at the Officers Club and Evansville Country Club.

Captain Evans Honored in Airlift Wing Award

Captain Donald L. Evans of Georgetown, son of Mr and Mrs Robert W Evans, serves in the 62nd Military Airlift Wing at McChord AFB Washington. The unit received the U S Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for operations in Southeast Asia and at remote Alaskan sites. Evans, a navigator and Purdue graduate, earned his commission in 1955 through the ROTC program.

Half Of Farmers Not Prosperous, Says ASCS Area Director

Robert Bergland, ASCS Area Director for the Midwest, told a Farmer Businessmen meeting at the Knights of Columbus Hall that about half of Lincoln Hills area farmers and half of the nation’s three million farm families are not prosperous. He noted gains in stabilization but urged more to improve rural economies and cited soybean and sunflower market shifts impacting exports and profits.

A fire destroyed the home of Charles Coffman in White Cloud. Coffman said a neighbor reported an explosion before the blaze. Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department fought the fire after responding.

Crayden Reappointed to Indiana Toll Bridge Commission

Governor Branigin reappointed Albert E. Crayden of Ramsey to the Indiana State Toll Bridge Commission.
