In a letter to readers of The Democrat W E Cox congressman from the third district explains openings on large Indian reservations in Washington Montana and Idaho for homestead entry. Applications must be filed between July 15 and August 5 as 1999 details and information can be obtained by writing to him.
Samuel Carpenter was acquitted by a Floyd Circuit Court jury after several days of trial. He faced a charge of shooting and killing Clarence Jackson at the New Albany Electric Light Plant power station a year earlier. The first trial in October ended with a hung jury and Carpenter remained jailed.
The New Albany Public Press urges Floyd county factions to heal the breach after the local option election. It calls for ending boycotts and respecting every citizen's right to hold and vote their opinions to restore harmony among neighbors.
