The Masons Growth in Indiana History
The Grand Lodge of Indiana formed in Corydon December 3 1817 under Kentucky and Ohio oversight. It began with five lodges and 195 members under first Grand Master Alexander Buckner, with delegates including Washington Johnson and Joseph Bartholomew. The decade saw growth to 28 lodges and 654 members by 1828, decline in 1838 to 15 lodges and 513 members amid Whig-led persecution, then steady revival to 92 lodges and 2,472 members by 1849, and now over 100 lodges with about 53,107 members.

Rescue At Raccoon River Details Heroic Fire Apparatus
In a daring rescue at the Raccoon River a man clung to a lodged limb as the Captain preferred a rope. Mr. Woertz quickly secured a rope, looped it, and tossed it. The man was drawn ashore and fed to the house by Mr. Lone and Mrs. Woertz. He later went home with George Woertz. Captain Dyer sustained bruises and lost his hat. his horse Barney waited on the opposite shore.

Veteran Riley Reneau Long Walks To Fredericksburg
Riley Reneau of Blue River township, aged 83, walked three miles to Fredericksburg on the 30th. A Mexican War veteran who served 13 months and later two years ten months in the Civil War with Co H of the 66th Indiana, he remains a skilled rifle shot. He chewed tobacco for seven years but quit two years ago, crediting the Lord for keeping him from temptation.
