Directors OK 6 percent mortgages as loans rise
The annual stockholders meeting on June 25 1901 approved reports from the Secretary Treasurer and Auditing Committee. Directors were reelected and new officers chosen with W H Bullett as President Hez Luckett Vice President S Pfrimmer Secretary Rose Keller Treasurer and William Ridley Attorney. The board said loans will be 6 percent and old mortgages become 6 percent from October 1 1901 aligned with safety and profit amid rising deposits and stock calls. Over eleven years the association handled over one million dollars with no losses and paid stockholders 47945 53 in dividends and 5077 82 to a reserve.

Prisoners of Masbate Jail Amid Campaign Lore
During the winter campaign the Masbate prison housed fifty to seventy five ladrones in an old convent. Guards endured long hours as prisoners staged bolo-dance acts and recited adventures while avoiding explicit murder tales. Prisoners, though savage, showed politeness when needed, and some claimed to fight in insurgencies or for liberty.

Mortimer Nye Dies After Paralysis at Union Mills
Former Lieutenant-Governor Mortimer Nye of LaPorte collapsed with paralysis while speaking at Union Mills in LaPorte County on the 4th and did not recover. He later died in LaPorte on July 6 after a long career as a Democratic leader and a thirty third degree Mason.

On the Fourth, Corydon baseball club captained by Tom Jones hosted Milltown with Hugh Glenn’s team forming a strong rival in front of about 400 spectators. Corydon won 14 to 13 after a tight innings contest. Umpires Fromholt and McIntosh.
