A Black man who assaulted a White woman at Mitchell on Friday escaped from officers and roamed hills across several counties until Sunday morning when he was found dead by officials near Bradford.
Edward Daugherty a 25 year old Black man was shot and killed in George Gettelfinger barn Morgan Township by Charles Hammond deputized by Captain John F. Platt New Albany night chief. The shooting followed a chase across Floyd and neighboring counties after Daugherty assaulted Mrs. Maury Lane of Mitchell Indiana. Hammond employed a shotgun and, with Platt and deputies, cornered Daugherty in the barn where a final shot from Hammond killed him and saved Platt from harm. The coroner classified the death as justifiable homicide and the body was sent to Louisville for burial.
Rev. F. Carr and wife arrive from Michigan to assume Corydon Christian Church pastorate. He delivers first sermon Sunday morning and joins other church leaders in welcome service. George Applegate Ben Applegate and Wilson Cook were said to be released from Atlanta Federal Prison yesterday and expected home soon. The terms of release and securing party are not known. They were sentenced by Judge Anderson of Indianapolis Federal Court to three and a year respectively for violations of National Banking Laws tied to the Corydon National Bank wrecking.

Alva Bell started his threshing machine at Fred Walker's place in Franklin township yesterday morning. The wheat crop looks good and a good yield is expected. Other threshing outfits are at work in other parts of the county.
Word reaches Miss Georgia Stockslager that her cousin Roscoe N Stockslager died suddenly in Salt Lake City Utah after illness from quinsy. He was forty five, born at Corydon, son of Judge Charles Stockslager, left for the West young, survived by his wife and two children. He served as Superintendent of Group Insurance for the Pacific Railway System.
Proceedings detail assessments and hearings from June 5 to June 28. Notable actions include changes to personal property values for C. C. Campbell Otto Smith and Victor Wright, and property assessments for Louisville Cement Plant, Keller Mine Co., and local banks. Township increases ranged from 1 to 10 percent across several towns.

Mrs Sarah A Wilson wife of William H Wilson died at home in Posey township on June 29 1928 Funeral services were held at Union church north of Elizabeth at 2 30 pm conducted by Rev W D Rosenberger United Brethren pastor of New Middletown Burial followed in the church cemetery She was born July 27 1854 in Harrison county Indiana and aged 68 years 11 months 2 days She and William married September 7 1876 and had eight children John Charles Earl William Harry Mrs Erma LaDuke and Mrs Mary Farnstey all in Harrison county and Mrs Pearl Mingfield of Floyd county Survived by sixteen grandchildren and many relatives and friends The obituary notes she was a good wife mother and neighbor and a final verse is included
A July 1 family reunion near New Salisbury honored Mr. Philip Hahn turning seventy. Relatives from New Albany Corydon and Louisville attended a yard picnic with chicken sausage pies and cake. Gifts from many relatives were exchanged amid a warm welcome and social laughs.
Miss Nellie Crawford’s funeral was held at the Corydon Christian church at 250 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Rev. J. G. Moore and John 2. Heth conducted the service. Burial followed in Cedar Hill cemetery. A quartette provided music and six pallbearers led the procession. A large crowd attended, with many friends of Nellie among both white and colored residents.
Iona Victoria Faith aged ten died Monday at her parents home Mr and Mrs Walter G Faith 101208 28th st Louisville. She was an only child after a long illness with side trouble. Corydon starts an early morning mail service to New Albany with delivery to Corydon at 730 AM. Thomas Robson serves as the carrier benefiting rural residents who can read Louisville papers on the new rural route. The mail travels from New Albany at six o'clock each day.
