Court Sends Six County Boys To State School

Six Harrison County juveniles aged fourteen to seventeen admitted to most break-ins from mid November to mid December. They were committed to Indiana Boys School at Plainfield, kept by Sheriff Joe Kessler until acceptance. Judge Eskew ordered possible psychiatric tests and said further investigation needed for remaining burglaries.

Stephen Foster Week attractions eyed for Corydon and Kentucky sites

Harrison County census shows 1,740 workers across 249 units as of March 15 with manufacturing, furniture, and wood products leading payrolls. Kentucky promotes Stephen Foster Story in Bardstown and suggests Wyandotte and Mauckport venues for future summer amphitheatres. Maintenance keeps Corydon appealing as it stays on the map after the 1966 Sesquicentennial.

Three Men Sentenced In Harrison Circuit Court

Ellis Jacobs of New Albany received six months suspended, $100 fine, costs, and one year license suspension for drunken driving. Laurence Phipps of Elizabeth and Tony Adams of Crandall were given one year suspended sentences and fines for deceptive issuance of checks. Russell Carver and Jasper Gilley faced non support charges. Estates filed for Floyd J O’Bryan Bruce Markel and Henry Wiseman. Multiple local traffic offenses and driver license suspensions announced by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

New Harrison County Highway Chief Clay Myers Named Supervisor

Clay Myers appointed as County Highway supervisor by the Board of County Commissioners on January 3. He brings over twenty five years of construction experience including work on Markland Dam and the Robert Gallagher Station project. Myers heads six district supervisors and oversees forty seven county road workers with his wife Marybelle and three children living on a forty acre White Cloud farm near Corydon.

Corydon completes bond sale for 100 car parking lot

Bonds totaling 90000 were delivered by Corydon to Old Capital Bank & Trust and Corydon State Bank at 4.5 percent to fund an off street lot. Corydon individuals bought 42000 with banks purchasing 48000. Land conveyed except one parcel, paving set to begin with Joe Pirtle and Sons to raze buildings and build the lot between East Chestnut Street and Mulberry Street.

Father Williams Transferred to Indianapolis School

Father Thomas Williams leaves Corydon after five and a half years as assistant pastor for St. Joseph’s Corydon Most Precious Blood New Middletown and St. Peter’s Benna Vista. He heads to Ladywood School in northeastern Indianapolis for a new assignment. A reception was held Tuesday at St. Joseph School to bid him farewell.

Fire damages home of Jack Lowe near Corydon

Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a Monday morning blaze at 2:55 a.m. Jan. 9 south of Corydon off Highway 135 Heidelberg Road. Estimated damages run to 500 dollars. no insurance on contents. The Jack Lowe family occupies the dwelling. a hair dryer left on is suspected as the cause.

The Harrison County March Of Dimes Toll Road will be held Sunday January 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at toll points in Palmyra New Salisbury and Corydon under Old Capitol C B Club supervision.
