Thanksgiving visitors to the Harrison County Poor Asylum recalled a will by Martin Johns of Taylor township. Dated 1881 in Harri son County Indiana the will directs a farm of 120 acres and remaining personal property to be sold to create a perpetual fund for the county poor. The fund was to finance annual Fourth of July dinners for inmates and other benefits as permitted by the fund’s interest. After years of operation the fund’s status is unclear and officials seek to locate and restore the remaining balance for its intended use.

Wilson Gibbons a well known Washington county farmer died suddenly Monday evening at his home near Salem from heart disease. His widow, formerly Miss Warrier Bullet, planned to visit her parents Mr and Mrs P C Bullet during Christmas. He also leaves a son and daughter from a former marriage.
Friends learn John S. Martin is gravely ill at his Indianapolis home after a recent surge of illness. Dr. W. E. Amy was called last Saturday and reports a critical, unconscious condition from uremic poisoning. Martin spent most of his life in the county, previously living in Palmyra and Corydon.
Owen Stepro, fifty five, unmarried, died of pneumonia last Thursday at 8 30 am at his brother Edward L Stepro’s home 113 Cotton Ave New Albany He is survived by brothers Edward L and Bert Stepro and a half sister Mrs Florence Foster all of New Albany The body was taken to Mauckport Saturday and buried in the old Mauckport cemetery Saturday afternoon.
Mrs Mattie Engleman died at her Georgetown home Friday December 21 at 945 am. She was daughter of the late Mr and Mrs David Engleman and leaves a sister Mrs Ed Tuell Corydon and three brothers William Elmer of St Louis and Millard of Oregon. Funeral services were held December 23 at 2 pm in Georgetown M E church.
The Corydon United Brethren Church invites all church workers to a gathering with devotions Bible study and Intermediate activities. Sunday services continue at the usual hours and a New Year message is planned for Sunday night at 7 00. Minister A D Smith signs the notice.

Pearl Steepleton visited Mildred Faith and Miss Elsie Beard with Miss Leona McBride. G E Behrens of Mr. Vernon spent the weekend with his sister Mrs. Ward McBride. A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs O Lee Faith. Wall Faith bought a new telephone. Raymond Frakes and Madee Crosier wed last week. Cleve Faith and family contracted measles. George Daley and son Herman killed nice heeves.
Miss Tandie Sharpe and Mr. George Applegate were married August second in Louisville. The bride is daughter of Cort S. Sharpe of Mitchell and the groom son of George W. Applegate of Indianapolis. He works in the Internal Revenue Office there. They will reside in Indianapolis. Both are Corydon High School graduates and highly respected. Relatives and friends wish them a long happy life.
The Democrat will publish one day early on Monday afternoon because Christmas falls on Tuesday. There will be no mail service on Christmas, so the usual Wednesday morning mail distribution will proceed.

Roy Reinhart of Salem talked with private detective Rev. Clarence E. Davis on a Monon train out of New Albany and admitted liquor at home. Davis found fourteen gallons at the Reinhart residence. both boy and father Coonie Reinhart were jailed in New Albany for bondless detention. Miss Goldie Groft of New Albany Business College visits home for the holidays.

Flora B. Davis and W. H. Davis married Tuesday December 4 at Jeffersonville with Rev J M Vawter officiating. They stayed in Ramsey for a wedding supper at the bride’s parents home and hosted by relatives for a charivari with pie cake candies cigars and peanuts. The couple will reside in Louisville. Dr and Mrs Carlton Daniel of Indianapolis visit local relatives.
Eldridge L. McKinster and Lou Shuck Bennett were joined in matrimony at the Corydon M. E. parsonage by Rev. J. G. Moore. Afterward the couple toured to Indianapolis to visit his two daughters, planning to reside on North Market Street in Corydon.
Mrs Margaret May Bloom wife of L Bloom died at 6:00 AM Thursday at her Wayside Kansas home. Born 1886 in Corydon she leaves husband nine children Marie Amos Rosa Glen Anna Rebecca sisters Kate Pitman Hester Wake man Sallie Payne Grace Crosson Edith Horsman P C Stone cipher Joe Yochem and a Melrose Oregon brother Benj G Zenor. She was a Baptist and Rebecca lodge member.

Mrs Matilda Waterman aged sixty died of heart trouble at her home in Louisville on Saturday December 15 and was found that evening. Funeral services were held Monday December 17 at two o'clock with interment in Cave Hill Cemetery. Survived by two daughters Mary and Nelda, one son Henry, husband William Waterman deceased, two brothers Louis Horn and Alois Horn, one sister Mrs John Zollman. Formerly Matilda Horn of Laconia.
Charles Stappenbach and Elsie Staib wed at Stabn's Lutheran Church with Rev. Wolff officiating in a double ring ceremony. Only immediate families attended. reception at the Staib home followed. The couple reside at 3006 Monterey Street and 1717 Seal Street hosted guests including many relatives.
