Mrs. Frank Reccius of 914 South Forty Fourth Street Louisville suffered burns to both hands when a can of stove polish exploded while she was blackening a stove in the dining room. A rug caught fire and the alarm stopped the blaze with minor damage.

The Spencer Township Farmers Institute held its annual session in Moberly on December 3 1915 opening with song and prayer chaired by J W G Loudon. Mrs Lewis Taylor and C B Benjamin spoke on farming topics. 70 new members joined after dinner. Officers elected included J W G Loudon president C W Harmon secretary and H B Barrow treasurer. Three hundred attendees enjoyed a large school exhibit with 216 entries and 73 premiums totaling 81 35. Awards covered corn potatoes cakes bread and sewing with many residents named for prizes.
County held a Boys Acre Corn Growing Contest with over a hundred participants. Seven top finalists presented reports with yields, costs, and ten ears scores. King and Gunther compete for final honors as Purdue grades composition. The winner may advance to the state contest at Purdue University.
A surprise party was hosted at the home of Mr and Mrs George G Schafer for Miss Bertha Girdley on December 8 to mark her twenty first birthday. Family and friends attended including numerous Girdley, Tarley, Schafer, and Ehalt relatives and neighbors. Refreshments featured cake candy lemonade peanuts popcorn apples and bananas and guests extended birthday wishes for many more celebrations. There will be a large demand for Xmas oysters with orders placed early through Rosenbargers.
Mr. and Mrs. Abner Noyes return from West Point when a frightened horse caused their buggy to overturn twice along a steep roadside. The horse was unharmed, but Mr. Noyes injured a forefinger while Mrs. Noyes sustained minor bruises. The buggy suffered slight damage. Meantime, a nearby store advertises a large stock of queens ware glassware enameling tinware at St Meech's Store.
