Death of Clarence C. Jordan on High Street
Clarence C. Jordan died at his home on High street last Thursday morning after a lingering illness. The immediate cause was heart failure probably brought on by other afflictions. He was born October 16, 1861 and was married to Catherine McGrain in December 1886. Four children survive him along with his wife, his mother, a sister Mrs. Rob J. Gibson, and two brothers David A. and Frank Jordan. An expert accountant and former lawyer with W. T. Zenor, he was active in the Knights of Pythias and Modern Woodmen. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Friday with Dr. A. M. Irvine delivering the sermon. burial followed at Cedar Hill cemetery.

Major Simpson Dead Former Paoli editor dies at 74
Major John R. Simpson, former editor of the Paoli News, died at his Paoli home after a long illness. He was 74, leaving a wife and two sons Arthur and John F. Simpson. A Civil War veteran, he served in the Fiftieth Indiana Infantry and was commissioned a captain in 1863. He was once Orange County Clerk and a 1902 Democratic lieutenant governor candidate. He later practiced law before entering newspapers. Funeral services were held under Masonic and Odd Fellow auspices.

Sexton Fined for Selling Liquor Without License
William Chavis was tried before Town Clerk A L Reynolds last week on a charge of selling intoxicating liquor without a license. Defended by Major W Funk, he was convicted and fined 10 dollars plus 27 60 costs. Chavis, a gentleman of color, is sexton of the Christian church and janitor of both banks. Evidence showed liquor sold in a stall at William Shacks livery stable on Sunday morning while he was briefly away from church work.
