Boy Drowns While Learning to Swim in Indian Creek
Oliver Windell sixteen son of Henry Windell of Washington township drowned last Sunday in Indian Creek near Scott and Washington townships. Jacob Danner and two Pinkney boys were swimming with him. Windell got beyond his depth and began to struggle. Danner tried to rescue him, floated a pole, but the pole broke and Oliver sank. The body was recovered after a daylong search and buried Monday at Buxley Cemetery in Washington township.

Death of Catherine Bartley in Boone township
Mrs. Catherine Bartley died at her sister Mrs. Luckett’s home after a long illness in Boone township at age 82. Widow of Joel F. Bartley formerly of Boone township, she left no children and was a Virginia native who settled in the county early in life. Funeral services were held at the Luckett residence and interment followed at the old Croshen church in Boone township.

Death of Joseph Rogge Near Corydon
Joseph Rogge, about eighty, died at his home two miles northwest of Corydon last Sunday. Born in Germany he came to the United States about fifty years ago and lived in Heth township until three years ago when he moved to the death site. He leaves a widow and two sons Otto and Louis from a previous marriage. The body was buried at Mt Zion Heth township on Monday after a funeral sermon by Rev. Toombs.

Two Oldest Churches in the County
This old structure erected in 1819 by Baptists with male members doing the work is a log-built church.
