Carlisle wins district spelling contest at Huntingburg
Stanley Carlisle of Scottsburg won first prize in the District spelling contest at Huntingburg on Saturday April 12 with Orpha Tuley of Huntingburg taking second. All counties in the congressional district were represented except Lawrence and the contest was exciting. Harrison county contestants Gladys Melton Lois Ward and Daniel Kron remained on the floor long, with Ward leaving with five on the floor when she withdrew.

Floyd county prosecutors John M. Paris and Claud Sittason faced indictments for hiring workers to support Democratic nominations. After changes of venue and a prior quash, the Indiana Supreme Court reversed Judge Montgomery and upheld the act, sending cases back to Floyd county for trial.

William KR Cunningham died at his East Chestnut street home last Monday at eighty years eight months. He lived in the county all his life, served in the Civil War, and earlier resided in Corydon as a shoemaker. Survived by his wife and two children from a former marriage, George Cunningham of New Albany and Hattie E. Kintner of California. Funeral at M E church with Rev. Robertson delivering the sermon. Daley Celebrates 31st Birthday and 10th School Term
John H. Daley of Harrison township near Corydon marked the close of his tenth teaching term and his 31st birthday with a large community dinner at No. 10 School. The day included a spelling match and a spelling bee plus a social reunion in the evening. Daley is regarded as one of Harrison County’s best teachers and residents expect him to return next year.

Amos Lemmon County Clerk reports receipt of the new Acts of the Legislature allocated to the county. The volume runs 1152 pages including the index, the largest in years. Roscoe Clyde Miller Dies in Corydon After Long Illness
Roscoe Clyde Miller died at his Corydon home after a long pulmonary illness. He was 36. Funeral at the Presbyterian church followed by burial in Corydon. He leaves a wife and three children, plus a father, stepmother, siblings, and extended family. Miller was a former professional pitcher in the American and National leagues, later working in his father’s grocery.
