Defends Dems Position on Cuba
Washington AP House Democratic Leader Carl Albert blasted Republican critics of the Kennedy Cuban policy calling them self serving and political. He reacted after Rep William Cramer Florida charged Democrats failed to back up strong words with action when they opposed a Republican amendment to a Cuban resolution. The measure, approved by both chambers, urged unity and possible force to curb Cuba, while the amendment would have limited U S action to Monroe Doctrine violations, a change Democrats rejected 241 to 140 with minimal Democratic support.
