Trenton Dentist and Wife Found Dead in Office

Dr Arthur J. Thomas Jr. 38 a local NAACP leader and Mary Mucciarelli 25 were found dead in the dentist’s basement office. Police term the deaths asphyxiation with possible chloroform and investigate murder suicide or death by own action pact. An empty gas container and masked mouth suggest anesthetic involvement. Man Pleads Guilty To Drunk Driving In Local Crash

A 46 year old Corry man pled guilty to drunk driving at a hearing before Alderman Porter Auer. Gayle Boutwell of 416 East Pleasant Avenue asked to go before Erie County Court for a similar plea. Boutwell, jailed after his car rear ended a stopped vehicle on Wright Street at East Washington. Louis Hill, 51, of 633 West Smith Street, said his tail lights were on as he stopped for a stop sign. Boutwell claimed he was traveling about 20 miles per hour and did not see Hill’s car. He was taken to Corry Memorial Hospital. doctors ruled he was not fit to drive. Boutwell posted $1,000 property bond and was bound over to court.

Scientists report Mariner 2 in Los Angeles was knocked off sun and Earth orientation on September a micrometeorite struck Venus bound craft causing it to spin but automatic systems corrected the attitude, according to Jet Propulsion Laboratory officials.

UF Returns Rise To 26700 For United Fund Drive

United Fund officials at a report breakfast announced a total of 26670 to date, about 37 percent of the 72500 goal. Cochairs Clifford Taylor and Keith Henton credited industry and labor for strong divisions, noting major corporate gifts tally at 17105 and industrial gifts at 5957 with other totals across several sectors.

Mother Drowns Two Children in Bathtub Near Pittsburgh

A 30 year old Braddock Hills mother Mrs Jane Hoeftman told police she drowned her two children James B aged 4 and Margaret Jane aged 3 in a bathtub at their home. The bodies were found in beds after police were alerted. She was admitted to St Francis General Hospital for examination. No charges filed yet. The father Edward a mechanical engineer was at work. An Allegheny County Behavior Clinic doctor evaluated her. She had been hospitalized in 1953 for a nervous breakdown and had been depressed for two months.

U S Agrees to Sell Hawk Missiles to Israel

Washington reports the United States will sell Hawk antiaircraft missiles to Israel to strengthen defenses against regional Soviet armament. The deal, to be completed soon, includes training for Israeli operators in the United States and is described as a straight sale. Egypt Syria and Iraq are noted for increasing Soviet arms and short range missiles.

Canadohta Lake Residents Seek Borough Status

75 Put To Death For Plot To Assassinate Castro

About 300 persons rounded up and seventeen shot in a purported plot to assassinate Prime Minister Fidel Castro and clear the way for an invasion. Six FAL and MARC members were executed at La Cabana Fortress in Havana. others received prison sentences. Cuban authorities said informants linked the groups to the CIA and planned uprisings, with targets including police stations and the presidential palace.

Brutality Alleged at Erie County Jail Inmate Abuse Claim

An ex-inmate says an incoming prisoner with a stitched mouth was struck by a county turnkey during jailing after a motor vehicle crash. The injured man, Frank Styborsky of Venango County, received emergency care and was released on bond the same day. Names are withheld pending inquiry.

Innocent by Insanity in Slaying Case at Lebanon

Delores Zipp, 24, found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 5 month old’s death from strangulation three years ago. Judge G Thomas Gates ordered commitment to Watersville State Hospital for treatment after the verdict. Zipp had been a patient there since October 4 1959 and was tried this month.
