Severe winds and heavy rains pounded western Pennsylvania on a Monday night, with Pittsburgh and Greensburg bearing the brunt. A two story building near Greensburg was toppled, causing about 60 000 dollars in damage. Debris closed routes and left thousands without power as wires snapped and traffic was diverted.
A severe thunderstorm spanned several areas with gale winds but Corry avoided major damage. Civil Defense alerted crews, meetings were adjourned, and YMCA children sent home as precautionary measures. Utilities reported no unusual damage while other towns faced scattered outages and isolated fires.
A Corry woman, Mrs. Leslie Upperman, was convicted on two counts of fraudulent conversion tied to Loy sales activity in Cary. She received two weeks to 23 months in Erie County Jail on each count, fines of 25 and costs, and is currently in jail.
