CHICAGO AP The 1960 White House race features Nixon and Kennedy in a first of four TV debates airing at 8 30 p m EST on major networks. Kennedy opens eight minutes, Nixon follows, then a four member panel asks questions with three minute replies and one minute rebuttals. A three minute summation closes, with Kennedy last after a coin toss.
Corry Area High School seniors will spend most of the day on tests in reading language and mathematics as part of California achievement exams being given in Pennsylvania. Roger Hoover will supervise with senior teachers proctoring. Results will be sent to the State Department of Public Instruction for comparison later. The reason Corry was chosen and the number of participating schools were not disclosed.
Pat-Charles B Swops a 45 year old Radin Corporation of America lawyer was killed Saturday while trying to rescue a son. The boy, Charles age 12, also died in the incident leaving two families in mourning.
Democratic hopeful John F. Kennedy plans a short Erie visit with three talks in about 14 hours. He will attend a 9.25 per plate breakfast hosted by Gov. Lawrence to introduce him and two rallies, arriving from Akron by air and motorcade to the Hotel Lawrence for an overnight stay.

Gwendolyn Blakely 45 died after a car driven by her husband Merle Blakely failed to negotiate a curve on Route 430 in Summerdale Township. The coroner cited a fractured skull. Merle Blakely and 18 year old Dixie Lee Grant survived with minor injuries. Mrs Blakely had six children and numerous relatives. Funeral arrangements are set at Bracken Funeral Home with rites Wednesday at 2 pm.
A two car collision on Route 97 in Millcreek Township near Arbuckle Road yesterday afternoon killed Brie Willmarth 82 and her daughter Eva Mae Prager 63. Passenger Sally Bulishak driver of the other car, suffered multiple injuries and is in critical condition at St. Vincent Hospital.
Two small planes bound for Youngstown from New York state were reported missing in central Pennsylvania. A blue white Aeronair piloted by Mr Cole left Buffalo at 1130 p m and a red black Cessna 182 piloted by Mr Levin left West Chester N Y at 1221 p m yesterday. Neither plane carried radio communication. Police issued statewide alerts as search teams comb the wooded terrain for possible crashes.
A radiator ruptured releasing steam and hot water, killing five month old twins George and Richard in their Clifton Wright home. Wright opened the door to the bedroom, triggering a blast of steam, then evacuated and alerted emergency services. Investigators expect autopsy to confirm suffocation or scalding as the cause.
Injured football player William L. Rippey from the Corry Johnaonburs game has been removed from the critical list at Corry Memorial Hospital. Dr Archie Tate reported Rippey remains in fair condition after spleen removal and rib fracture treatment. no further hemorrhage is expected if stabilization continues. He was taken to hospital in the second quarter of Friday night’s game.
Germany reports that President Eisenhower cannot fit Berlin trip into his tight schedule for October 24th marking the 10th anniversary of the Freedom Belt. The U8 Embassy said the President will not attend the ceremony in the capital.
Chauncey Smith, 20, of Bradford, free on $1,500 bail, charged with second degree manslaughter in the death of James De Chane, 25, of Limestone. De Chane died Saturday after a brawl outside a Limestone tavern. Police said the cause of the fight is unknown.
Plainclothes officer seizes a man who reaches for an anti Castro sign as a tense demonstration unfolds near a hotel area in Harlem where Cuban Premier Fidel Castro is staying. Pro Castro forces had been demonstrating when Frente Revolucionaria Democratic members arrived, and authorities began barricading to prevent further flare ups.
