President Nixon suggested Rep. Richard H. Poff as a potential candidate for one of two vacant Supreme Court seats. Washington AP report details government tests on 50 000 Minnesota turkeys slaughtered for Thanksgiving to determine PCB residues found earlier in chickens. Turkeys impounded in six weeks at Swift Dairy and Poultry in Detroit Lakes, a Swift & Company unit, with flocks from Peterson Bidding of Wadena. Authorities cautioned not all birds tainted, but all held for further testing.
A local man, James Laxman, 21, pled guilty to five charges for operating a mini-bike on Church street three weeks earlier. He was fined $65 for running a stop sign not wearing proper headgear driving without a license unregistered vehicle and driving without lights. In other business at the same court, Jean Blount, 22, was found not guilty of failure to yield right of way. Robert Eastman, 17, was found guilty of reckless driving and paid $410 in fines and costs. Glen Kerr, 18, pled guilty to a curfew violation and was fined $16. In Turin, Italy, Domenico Consalvo admitted snatching Teresa Capirone’s purse to obtain documents but Capirone withdrew charges after receiving $16.
