The United Nations faced a fresh crisis as the Soviet Union threatened to torpedo a plan for a temporary secretary general to replace Dag Hammarskjold. Moscow demanded a three man secretariat to steer the UN, risking East West deadlock and leaving the organization leaderless. Spring Creek Man Admits Rape Of Neighbor Girl

Keith Henry Miles, of Spring Creek, pleaded guilty to rape of an eight year old neighbor. Arrested by State Police last Sunday, the attack occurred Saturday in a wooded area near Miles home. Miles, held without bail, faces up to 18 years and a $7,000 fine at sentencing in Warren County court.

GM and UAW Reach 3-Year Contract for 350000 Workers

Bulletin from Detroit reports General Motors and the United Auto Workers reached a three year contract covering about 350000 hourly workers after a two hour marathon session on plant issues. Negotiators had worked 64 days to finalize the deal.

Corry Hospital Receives National Accreditation

Corry Memorial Hospital was granted national accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation. Supt. Edgar Alexander announced the news at a dinner for hospital directors, noting the four national organizations involved and stressing that accreditation signifies a safe, well run facility with high standards across all services.

UN Troops Ordered Out of Congo by Tshombe

Katanga President Mole Tshombe demanded immediate withdrawal of U.N. troops from his secessionist province. He said he would return to Elisabethville after a wreath laying for Dag Hammarskjold. Tshombe asserted counterproposals had been sent to New York and awaited a reply as U.N. talks continued in Ndola with Mahmoud Khiari.

Ex-Con Nabbed After Three Days In Corry

Bobby Fitch, 289 parolee from Lewistown Pennsylvania, held three days with local acquaintances in Corry before being arrested for stealing a car in Missouri and transporting it across state lines. Police traced the suspect after a Corry High School class ring theft report and recovered a bags with clothing and items linked to the fugitive. Fitch, once freed from a Lewisburg penitentiary sentence begun in a German military prison, faces federal and state charges as authorities review possible parole violations and interstate theft.

Mead Park Attendance To Be Record

Attendance at Mead Park this PASL season may have surpassed any previous year’s record. Directors of the association learned last evening that a record total is expected. Plans for a new bridge at the park’s north entrance were announced and construction is expected to start soon. An invitation to attend a breakfast with merchants at the Ritz Restaurant was extended and accepted. Forms for extending the wall in Memory Lane have been erected another 150 feet. Probe Titusville Crash Involving Corry Trucker

State Police investigated a three vehicle accident on Route 8 three miles south of Titusville involving Paul Capela a Corry driver in a truck Frank S Rodkey of Erle and Robert Earl Loveless of Titusville. No injuries but estimated vehicle damage was 375 dollars. The truck stopped for a school bus and Rodkey’s car followed while Loveless could not stop and struck Rodkey’s car pushing it into a trick.
