Light storm damage spares Corry city area

The Corry area escaped major destruction from yesterday's freak storm though high winds heavy rain and lightning caused some trouble. One basement pump call in Hare Creek area minor tree damage and flooded areas along Sciota street with one lane traffic as flood waters recede. A city crew aided Lake City cleanup and power outages affected Union City Elgin and surrounding regions with restoration by morning. Guided by Paula Mountain the city logged 1.05 inches of rain in 24 hours and engineers noted no widespread mudslides.

Measle Immunization Program Slated Here

Corry Area School District will hold a measles immunization program after a county outbreak. Nurse Jean Gregory says the Pennsylvania Department of Health requests vaccination for nine day measles in grades 5 through 13, with parental consent forms sent home. Cooperation urged to protect the community and keep students in school.

Corry Trooper Involved in Fatal Route 8 Crash

State police investigate a crash at Route 8 and Legislative Route 2008 six miles south of Union City at 10 20 p m Saturday. Cecil Harrison 4 of Titusville died a passenger in Richard Bailey 19 also of Titusville driven car. Bailey and two other Titusville residents Lori Harrison and Nadine Harrison were hospitalized in satisfactory condition. Gambino 36 of Corry drove his car into the Bailey vehicle after entering the intersection from LA 2008 where a stop sign exists. Gambino was treated at Corry Memorial Hospital and released. No charges filed yet as investigators continue.

Storm floods up Lake Erie prompting emergency in Fredonia

A powerful storm sweeping across Lake Erie caused flash floods across Chautauqua County and beyond. Fredonia Mayor Charles St. George declared a state of emergency as Canadaway Creek overflowed, flooding yards and streets, with roads washed out in Clymer and French Creek and water seen in Buffalo basements and streets.

Boyle Murder Trial Postponed After Hospitalization

The murder trial of W A Boyle, former United Mine Workers president, was postponed to Friday as Boyle, 76, is hospitalized with heart disease and other ailments after being carried on a stretcher from the Delaware County courthouse to Crozer Chester Medical Center. Court coroner Dr Larry Redin says Boyle was treated after reporting illness and was sent for observation. Special prosecutor Richard Sprague declined comment.

Beverly Hills Club Fire Report Calls Violations Electricians Nightmare

Kentucky Governor Julian Carroll released a state report detailing extensive building code violations at the Beverly Hills Supper Club in Kentucky that contributed to the May blaze in which 164 died.
