Faubus Shifts Date for Little Rock School Vote

Cited Driver On Two Counts In Wattsburg

Robert Schweitzer of R D 2 Wattsburg was cited on two counts by city police for reckless driving and failing to heed an officer. He allegedly sped through streets causing tires to squeal, while an officer attempted to stop him and an eyewitness supported the charges. In Dunkerque, Communist demonstrators blocked Premier Reynaud from delivering a campaign speech for the Gaulle constitution, police cleared the hall with no casualties.

Caliborner or Bust Lincoln Touring Car Westward Journey

Robert Desmond drives a 1920 Lincoln touring car from West Church Street toward the west coast with Mrs Desmyad and Mr Badger Spoon of Columbus following. Desmond plans to leave the antique vehicle with its owner who bought it in Dunkirk NY. The 29 year old machine is in unusually good condition and a garage mechanic says it can travel at least 60 mph though Desmond does not expect to drive that fast.

Walkout as Ford UAW consider new proposal

Detroit AP United Auto Workers at Ford plants nationwide began a 10 am strike deadline with a new offer from Ford described as a refining and modifying process. Ford reports nine of 86 plants shut down by walkouts and others affected as talks continued. Stellato said the company proposed retroactive pay to July 1 and raising annual pensions from 225 to 235 per year of service plus to maintain the annual improvement factor.

Third Train Coach Recovered After Jersey Line Disaster

Recovery of the third coach from a Jersey Central passenger train that plunged into Newark Bay in Bayonne, New Jersey, yielded four bodies including a woman and three men. Divers and coast guards also pulled two more victims from the water as the death toll rose to 27 and could reach up to 40. The engineer, Lloyd Wilburn, 63, Red Bank, died. autopsy notes a preexisting heart condition. The drawbridge signal failure and automatic derailment device contributed to the wreck.

Mead Park Playground Summer Attendances Hit Record High

Mead Park Association reports 1 525 attendees at Mead Park Playground during the past summer season. The annual meeting at Nichols Lodge disclosed 19 percent of attendees were children. Seven Killed In Flaming Jet Bomber Crash

A B52 jet bomber based at Luluing Air Force Base crashed on a farm near St. Paul during a training mission. The co pilot parachuted to safety while seven crew members were listed missing and presumed dead. The crash sparked a fire that damaged a nearby house barn and outbuildings. Eight members of the Kahl family were hospitalized with burns and injuries. Captain Jack Craft survived, describing the aircraft as seeming to break apart in the air.

Drivers Unhurt In Route 6 Crash

A Route 6 crash one mile west of Carry near the State Fish Hatchery caused $900 in damage to two cars but no injuries were reported. Roy Hong, 48, entered Route 6 from a hatchery driveway and collided with a westbound car driven by Asher Langworthy, 63. Hong’s car sustained $600 damage and Langworthy’s $300.

Navy Regulus Missile Launch From Submarine Marks First

The Navy tested the Regulus II missile from the submarine Grayback off Point Mugu California. The 50 foot weapon aimed 200 miles to Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert but recovery gear failed and the missile caught fire after landing. The Grayback surfaced with the Regulus I on a swiveling launcher and the test center reported positive ground and air control throughout the operation.

Foil Rebel Blast Attempt In Paris

In Paris four Algerian terrorists tried to trigger a large explosion at a main gasworks. The blast ripped through two pine structures and a fire was promptly extinguished. Experts warned the tank could have ruined parts of Paris suburbs.
