London reports Russia plans a major offensive to take Berlin, with Petrograd stating the entire army will devote its strength to the drive. The plan, if realized, follows Franco-Belgian gains and Austrian movements. caution remains on German resistance and broader strategic aims.
A southbound Pennsylvania Railroad freight derailment near Avertoun disrupted tracks south of town for hours. No. 81 passenger waited until 19:50 as the Buffalo-bound Loon paused. Cause cited as a defective truck on the tender. two cars damaged. Repairs took hours before service resumed. Also reports note Belgians operating Longa Mine and ongoing actions around Antwerp. General news items from Vienna, Rome, and Pittsburgh included.
Corry Bika and an organizing committee prepared for a large clambake in Columbus with out of town guests arriving from Jamestown Union City and county seats. Fifty from Union City and about fifty from Orie Hike! join a populace of 250 to 300 expected attendees for a historic event aided by good weather.

Final election returns from Portland Maine show Oakley G Curtis Democrat elected Governor over Republican Haines by about two thousand votes. Gardner Progressive had a small share while both major parties gained overall.
