Corry Area Joint School Committee weighs overcrowding at Conelway School as 440 students exceed the building capacity by 80. Directors in Concord Township and Elgin failed to act on a 3 year old recommendation to add rooms, despite prior warnings from Superintendent Thomas R. Shupe.
The Corry Joint Committee ends over crowded Conelway talks and adopts a $1 gate for football games at Howard J. Sheen Field. Elementary students may buy 95 cent tickets midweek while high school students can buy 50 cent advance tickets. failure to do so means paying full price. A Canada Steamship Line freighter Fort William exploded at about 4:30 a.m. with oil aboard. Captain Samuel Wilkinson said as many as five men might still be aboard as the vessel burned and lay on its side after firemen forced entry into the captain’s cabin.
U S officials say about 1100 to 1300 Americans mainly women and children will be evacuated from West and East Pakistan starting 8 p m EST. Evacuees include dependents of U S officials and workers with some nonessential staff. transports will fly from Lahore Dacca Manila Tehran Bangkok and Clark Air Base.
