Corry Area Joint School Committee President Meerdink says only one isolated instance exists of purchases through district channels by an administrator in five years, while the committee solicitor reports no facts indicating embezzlement. A resolution bans purchases through school channels by admins, with limited exceptions for teachers, wood shop items, and student needs. London AP report: fugitive spy Robert A. Soblen died in Hillingdon Hospital after an apparent barbiturate overdose as he faced deportation to the United States for wartime espionage for the Soviet Union. His wife Dr Dina Soble was at his bedside. Soblen had lapsed into unconsciousness en route to London Airport before death.

MAYVILLE The first degree murder trial of Leo J Mleczk 44 of Dunkirk has been transferred to Cayuga County by Supreme Court Justice Alzer R Williams. The change of venue for the man charged with the shot and slaying of Dunkirk Police Lt Mark Elfman last October 1 was sought by his court appointed lawyers. The trial will be held during a special term of Supreme Court opening in Auburn October 15. The exact date will be set after defense attorneys consult. Adell Botsh Jr, 22, Dr Kennedy entered an innocent plea to criminal possession of a pistol. Lester D Sharp, 21, R D 2 Ashville pleaded innocent to second degree forgery involving a $38 check. Trials for both were set down for the current county court term.
State Police said Jack E. Buck 22 of New Galilee and Ronald Raistoy 24 of Wampiin were nabbed inside the Gay ford Department Store near Shenanea Township after an alarm sounded. They pleaded guilty to burglary charges.
LAUREL Md AP A 2 year old man faced manslaughter charges in the pop bottle death of a bridegroom two weeks after his wedding. David William Dirucher of Laurel was arrested after Harvey Alvin Hurley of Jessup was chased from a restaurant by a group of men. Hurley was found beside a road and died yesterday from a fractured skull the hospital in Prince Georges County.
Mayor Philip Zalzueck signed a proclamation blessing the United Fund drive which opens Friday. Onlookers included Carton Smith and Jeff, Williams, and UF drive committee chairmen James Allyn, James Hansmand, R. Elwin Puller, Keith Fenton, and O. Kenneth Christiansen. The ceremony occurred in the Municipal Building council chambers yesterday afternoon.
