Indianapolis police end a three week mystery by identifying a smiling bus terminal girl as Jeannie Lee Odom, daughter of Tess Jean Littler. Littler and her mother Ruby St. Clair face child neglect charges in two states after the reunion at Marion County Guardian Home.
A two vehicle crash Saturday afternoon south of Corry on Spartansburg road damaged a state police patrol car and a truck. Trooper Joseph Robyak, 26, and James Maginnis, 29, sustained reinjuries. Maginnis drove south while the patrol car traveled north over the center line about a mile south of the city. Police expected charges against Maginnis. Patrol car damage listed at $373 and truck at $200.
In southwest Georgia two Negro churches near Albany burned last Sunday amid racially tense violence. Plans aim to raise 24000 to rebuild Mount Olive Baptist at Lasser and Mount Mary Baptist nearby with Civil rights leaders and Jackie Robinson backing a voter registration drive. An FBI agent was assaulted by farmer Virgil Puckett during the investigation. authorities pursued a full inquiry though no arson evidence was found.
London AP reports Prime Minister Harold Macmillan opens a Marlborough House summit as 16 Commonwealth leaders assess Britain’s plan to join the six nation European Economic Community. Lacy reported at the 42nd ACS meeting that common, widely occurring clays offer a cheap efficient means to purify water contaminated by fallout and to aid in disposing of radioactive waste. Ten children from St Pauls Home Greenville suffered serious burns when a ferris wheel at Jamestown fairground caught fire during a noon ride. Kenneth Scott Joseph Swartz Carol Zuschlar and Luana Everett, all 16, remained hospitalized with first to third degree injuries, while several others were treated and released. Fire officials attributed the blaze to a motor fire in the wheel. the ride was halted and victims were transported to Greenville Hospital and by local funeral home ambulances.
Mrs Howard Gardner of Newport died after a lengthy illness. She had wished to attend her son Richard's bedside wedding, which took place at Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital on August dist, with the bride and groom joined by family. Richard, 20, was married in the hospital. Mrs Gardner passed away Saturday.
Senator Keating suggested a limited naval blockade around Cuba if Soviet aid continues. He spoke on a Pennsylvania radio interview with James Van Zandt, who criticized Kennedy for lacking Western support on Cuba. Van Zandt urged protest over Soviet food shipments aboard NATO allies ships.
