Five election officers denied new trials and jailed
United Press reports five election officers convicted of fraud in 1980 were denied new trials and received prison terms of two to three years. Treasury chief Metlin announced a $140,569,540 subsumption into an $800,000,000 three percent 20-2 year treasury bond issue. John Kaul of Birmingham, Alabama, who died after falling from an Atlantic City hotel window, was born in St Marys.

Two Killed in Plane Crash Near Norristown
In Norristown on September 9 Louis Clothier 25 son of a Philadelphia family and Thoburn Maxwell 25 of Radnor a National Guard lieutenant were killed when their plane crashed during a practice landing. Maxwell died later at a hospital. The pair had been practicing forced landings and takeoffs before the crash.

Eight Injured by Dallas Blast Shock and damage reported near farm magazine
A large dynamite blast at a DuPont magazine on the Henry Schneidel farm ten miles south of Dallas injured eight people. Six were from the Schneidel family who lived nearby. The most seriously hurt was five-year-old Billie Schneidel, blown from the floor and cut on the head.

Nineteen Arrested as Pittsburgh Registration Day Disorders Escalate
State police and city officers broke up disturbances at Letsche school during the second Pittsburgh registration day.
