President Kennedy welcomed Soviet acceptance of a proposed atmospheric nuclear test ban even after a second July explosion in Central Asia. AEC head Glenn Seaborg reported the new shot in the low kiloton range as U S and British officials termed the development not encouraging. First lady Kennedy cut short a Nantucket visit as word reached the White House and State Department reaffirmed hope for Khrushchev to agree to the ban.
Corry motorist Robert Leek, 22, of 135 Hust Church street, is hospitalized at Corry Memorial with possible fractures and multiple injuries after his car failed to negotiate a curve and rolled over on a dirt road near Columbus. Police said excessive speed for conditions and steering trouble contributed. vehicle is destroyed with about $200 loss.
Henry Locke, 26, inmate of Mayview State Hospital, is awaiting further court action on a murder charge for fatally beating his father Hubert A. Locke, 86, a retired Philadelphia attorney. The incident occurred at the family home in Pittsburgh's Est Budan after Locke attended his mother's funeral.
About 595 pupils at Wright School start the 1961 62 term tomorrow as window installations and other alterations run late. New parking rules at Corry Area High School require parking permits during the first week. New teacher assignments and faculty movements announced as work continues.
Tropical Storm Carla was forecast to bring heavy rains and strong winds to the eastern coasts of Honduras and the Yucatan Peninsula as Betsy churned in the North Atlantic. Associated Press reports Little Rock will desegregate a technical high school and four junior high schools with no disorder as 48 Negro students enter Cent3 Hall High and the other campuses under guard. Officials expected peaceful integration reminiscent of 1957 Central High events while nearby cities begin phased desegregation.

Police arrested hundreds of youths in six states over Labor Day weekend amid wild beach parties and drunken Disorder. In Ocean City Maryland a large crowd disrupted events with a notable 2000 teens at Dean City and multiple arrests. Wildwood New Jersey faced jail overcrowding and large penalties.
Four Union City area residents were injured in a head on crash two miles southeast of Union City on Route 178. Police said Charles J. Pritchard and his wife Helen along with Vergie Porter were hospitalized with serious injuries and Doris Moody treated but not admitted.
Ernest R. Adams 28 of RD 1 Beaverdam was arrested by Constable Richard Blount on a rape charge filed by the parents of a 9 year old girl. He pleaded not guilty at arraignment before Justice Ploye Marsh and was jailed in Corry. a hearing set today in Erie County. Rape penalties in Pennsylvania can reach up to 15 years and $7,000 fine or both.
Elgin resident Mrs. James Clapp, 34, sustained neck whiplash when the car she rode in was rear ended near Corry by a vehicle driven by Paul Dietsch. Clapp was treated at Corry Memorial Hospital. damage totaled about $100 to the Clapp car and $200 to the other. Possible charges are pending.
