Art Metal Pays $250000 For Vacations
Jamestown reports Art Metal Construction Co told Lodge 1559 that $295000 in vacation pay checks mailed to New York were sent yesterday. About 100 of 1500 employees remaining idle since May 18 strike will receive 150 to 400 along with three weeks pay based on service. Checks were mailed by 10 pm yesterday with total up to 300 for some workers. Office staff included.

George Pete Howe of Pleasantville, who spent over two months at home awaiting orders for Turkey, has arrived in the country for a new assignment. He flew August 20 by plane and his family reports a card mailed from Germany this week. Howe began his delay en route furlough on June 3, visiting his parents, and expected his port call within days before the Army’s mobilization.

Judge Sentences Three To Prison
Judge Samil el Rossiter yesterday sentenced David Louis King, 20, of Brie to 11 to 22 months in Erie County Prison for burglary. Co-defendant Jack Lawrence Nowling, 21, of Brie, received 5 to 18 months. Both were fined $100. Richard Palmer, 20, of Wesleyville, was jailed six months and fined $850 after pleading guilty to driving while suspended. Palmer has a prior record of three arrests for similar violations.
