Smuthport Pa Sept 4 Invitations have been sent for the consecration on Thursday September 16 of Rev Edward Pinkney Wroth rector of Trinity Memorial Church Warren Pa as bishop of the Erie diocese. Wroth was elected June 19 at the diocesan convention in Christchurch Oil City Pa to succeed Rt Rev John C Ward who retired June 1 and is serving in St Peters Church Seward Alaska. Ward had served as bishop since 1914. Services will be in Cathedral of St Paul West Sixth Street Erie Pa. Rt Rev Henry St George Tucker of Virginia will act as consecrator with Bishops Binder of West Virginia and Helfernstein of Maryland as other consecrators. The Very Rev William S van Dyke rector emeritus of St Luke's Hers has been serving as acting bishop of Erie since Ward's retirement.
County Commissioner Helen M Schluraff denied plotting a write-in campaign to win a Democratic nomination for commissioner while seeking a Republican nomination. She said the letter charging her with organizing a fight for the Democratic nod was false and that she had not pursued or encouraged any such effort. Erie Sept 4 The September Grand Jury will urge county commissioners to pursue postwar construction programs including a new Erie County prison a detention home and perhaps a tuberculosis hospital They checked county finances and learned about 100 000 available in 1944 to fund the program and visited the Erie County Home and Detention Home before adjourning to resume Tuesday
