St Elizabeths Parish Center hosted a card party on Wednesday chaired by Mrs Marty Ltke and Mrs Margaret Doyle to raise funds for the upcoming centennial gala. Forty four tables were in play with door prizes donated by parish members and local merchants. Winners included Julia Kurelowech Charlotte Shearer Clara Loveland Philena Follett Mary Ruffner Joyce Eck and others. grand award went to Wylma Heberlein. A lunch followed and Catholic Youth members helped serve.
Ebony Anna Marie Kranz and Brave the pony along with Snowball the dog and Snoopy the puppy won pet contest ribbons while children performed for judges Mrs Edith Robinson and Gordon Forker. Catholic Daughters plan a tureen dinner at St Elizabeth Parish Center September 9 and call chairmen for menu details. Columbus Church hosts Rev Merriman as guest speaker September 5 at the United Church of Christ.
Janet Vorse and Steven Bemis united in marriage in a 10 AM ceremony at Full Gospel Fellowship Church led by Rev. Orren Smith. The bride, daughter of Hazel Vorse, wore white satin with lace. the groom’s parents are Jacqueline Bemis of East Pleasant Street and Robert Bemis of Erie. Maid of honor Penny Bemis, best man Gale Hetrick. Guests included family, with floral gowns and a decorated reception. A separate stork shower honored Mrs. Randy Huffman of New York City with 24 attendees and prizes.
The first toy picnic at French Creek since 1941 drew over 200 attendees at the Williams Sales Barn. Senior citizens, families, and officials toured old photographs, crafts, and displays, with a Bicentennial quilt, plant centerpiece prize, and a vocal program. Mrs. Mary Zelazny won the floral centerpiece. Rev. John Lyga led the invocation.
A stork shower at the Columbus Am munity Building honored Mrs. Kenneth Kathy Schenck. Hosts Mina Hankin Pat Savko Arla Cochran and Debbie Savko. Desserts were served and gifts given. Recipients included Betty Rhodes Janet Osborne Katie Farrington Roxanne Jaquith Iris Gorney Marlene Osborne Lora Eschenbach and Teena Chirieweio.
A surprise 25th wedding anniversary party honored Mr. and Mrs Edward Kovach at their Hillcrest drive home. Hosts were their sons Edward Kovach of Niles and James Kovach of Erie. Relatives attended from Niles Cleveland Buffalo Erie Saegertown and Corry. The couple wed August 25 1951 at St Elizabeths Church.
Members and a guest of the Women s Association of the Corry Country Club enjoyed a luncheon and afternoon of bridge yesterday at the club. Hostesses were Mrs Lenore Rossbacher and Mrs W W Bammond Sr. Mrs Leonard Kleinman of Fairfield Conn was a guest. Winners were Mrs Horton Davis Mrs WW Hammond Sr Mrs Lloyd Stowe and Mrs Raymond Sandburg. Another luncheon bridge is planned for September 16 with hosts Mrs Gordon Holthouse and Mrs Phillip Young.
