White House talks on wages and pensions continue
The White House reports union industry and government view wage and pension figures differently. Two negotiating subcommittees met Tuesday with two union and two industry reps each. Pension demands could raise retirement costs, while the president seeks a fair noninflationary settlement. Moyers notes the talks are true collective bargaining with Wirtz and Connor as catalysts. Senate leaders hope for no strike, even if no agreement by the new deadline is reached.
