Blood Vessel Rupture Ends Shapp Speech Tour

Gov Milton J Shapp ruptured a blood vessel in his throat during a New York City speech over the weekend and will be unable to make further campaign appearances. An aide said the condition is not serious and he was ordered by a Philadelphia doctor to halt political speeches this fall.

Utility tax funds flowing to city and school districts

The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue mailed 2,982 checks totaling about 25 million dollars under the Public Utility Realty Tax Act sixth year. The program distributes utility tax revenues from real estate holdings to local governments and school districts based on a statutory formula. Gov. Shapp said 93 percent of the rebate is issued now. seven percent withheld pending a state budget appropriation. Corry city will get 5,702 dollars. Corry Area School District 11,226 dollars. other recipients include Elgin Borough 42 dollars, Union City 1,533 dollars, Wattsburg Borough 99 dollars, Concord Township 200 dollars, Union City School District 9,099 dollars, and Wattsburg Area School District 7,717 dollars.

Lucky Sailor Survives 28 Day Ocean Ordeal

Bruce Collins survived a 20 day raft drift after the Spirit sank in a September storm. He slept to endure the ordeal and was rescued by a Coast Guard cutter 200 miles west of San Francisco.
