Freshman Admits Beating and Burning Family in Ohio

An 18 year old college freshman confessed to beating his parents and two brothers with a baseball bat, dousing them with gasoline, and igniting the fuel. Four family members died in Brunswick Medina County. Police noted a gasoline can at the scene and the bat remained unfound.

Michael, a Miami University student in Oxford, Ohio, drove his mother's car back to campus after the bodies were found in a Brunswick home where a gasoline fire was started with a device. Neighbors recalled his final hours and a photo of his girlfriend.

Area Man Loses Foot In Farm Accident

James Davis, 35, of Union City, remains in fair condition at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie after a farm silo incident Saturday night. He lost a foot and suffered severe leg injuries when entangled in the chopping mechanism while loading silage. Union City volunteers removed the mangled limb before extricating him and transporting him to the hospital.

Body Found After Area Search in Waterford Township

The body of Charles D. Murphy of Waterford was found yesterday afternoon in his car after a multi day area search that began Sunday night. Erie County Coroner Merle Wood has not ruled on the death as state police investigate. A rescue helicopter from Erie County and a Franklin substation chopper aided the search spanning Union City Waterford and Corry per Millcreek Fire Control.

Harrisburg AP says state officials agreed on a fix to a loophole in the Motor Vehicle Code that could dismiss many drunk driving cases. The Health Department will notify all state police that breathalyzer devices are certified and will announce the change Saturday in the Pennsylvania Bulletin. The shift moves certification from PennDOT to Health, effective since July, after a Monday meeting with police, PennDOT, Health and Justice departments.
