Humphrey Returns to Washington for Senate Welcome

President Carter and Vice President Mondale greeted Hubert H. Humphrey on his return to Washington after illness as he prepared to enter the Senate chamber. Humphrey, gaunt but smiling, thanked doctors and pledged to raise “as much hell as I can” while resuming work. Carter signed the Humboldt Humphrey Building bill during the ceremony at Andrews Air Force Base.

Meadville Juveniles Charged With Murder In Slaying

Two youths, Ricky L Battles 17 and Joseph Anthony Frisina Jr 17, were charged with murder in Meadville for the Aug 17 killing of Jerome Anthony Nagorski 44. Battles surrendered with his mother and was arraigned. Frisina was arrested in Columbia, S C and extradition proceedings are planned. Nagorski was found shot in his home. his vehicle and weapons were missing.

Air and ground search for UC area man continues

Police pursue a suspected death by own action case in Union City and nearby areas. Rescue helicopters from Erie County and Franklin state police aided the search, with ground units continuing by car and bus into Sunday night, but no trace of the missing man has been found.

Fire training drills at former Cady home demolition

Corry and Elgin-Beaverdam Fire Departments held a two day fire training school over the weekend centered on demolishing the former Cady home on East South Street. The Lutheran Church owns the house and plans a church parking lot. Chief James Maloney said the sessions covered interior firefighting, gas leaks, furniture fires, and dense smoke work, with actual house demolition completed Saturday. Carter Leads Vets Day Observances

President Carter marked Veterans Day at Arlington National Cemetery with a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and a speech praising veterans including Vietnam vets like his son Jack. The ceremony featured 21 guns, Taps, and a moment of silence. In remarks he pledged to seek peace for America as Utah and Washington, D.C. observed the holiday. Water Demand Up City Has Supply in Corry

City Administrator Robert Grice said a controversial water main to Wayne Township is finished and crews will connect about 12 homes. The 19000 dollar main extends from West Smith Street and ends near the Fish Hatchery, with the town paying all costs. Grice noted 20 to 30 new hookup requests and said a new well will soon add to the system, keeping supply steady.

Stolen Auto Recovered Here But Thief Escapes

A car thief fled on foot after a chase and crash that left a stolen auto severely damaged near Seventh street. Police say the car had been reported stolen in Meadville by Thomas D. Law and the investigation continues.
